Building Momentum
Like many companies, Acuity Brands transitioned its conferences to digital platforms starting in 2019. The 2022 Connect Sales Conference marked the company’s first in-person gathering in three years, making the opening and mid-conference videos especially important. The opening video traditionally serves as the event’s kickoff, intended to excite the sales team and introduce the featured speakers. A second “half-time” video appears at the midpoint of the event, teasing what’s on the horizon for the following year.
Concept Development
Working closely with Acuity’s team, YLB began by outlining the goals and intended emotional tone for each video. Because the two videos served different roles, they required unique concepts and pacing. The opening video leaned toward energy and anticipation, while the half-time video focused more on future-oriented messaging. These distinctions guided the structure of the scripts and visual treatments.
Production Approach
Both videos combined studio-captured live-action footage with 3D elements and compositing. Our team handled casting, staging, and filming in-house to ensure full control over lighting, tone, and integration with the digital components.
3D animations were incorporated to highlight key ideas and visually connect the narrative to Acuity’s technology-driven brand identity. Careful compositing allowed the live-action and animated elements to blend seamlessly, creating polished, cohesive visuals.
Final Deliverables
YLB provided Acuity Brands with two distinct yet complementary videos that supported the conference’s structure and messaging goals. Each video aligned with the company’s brand standards while taking advantage of different storytelling techniques. The result was a pair of engaging, purpose-built assets that contributed to the energy and continuity of Acuity’s return to hosting in-person events.
